Albion Stone

Albion Stone is a fourth-generation family business that extracts and manufactures Portland Stone from its own mines on the Isle of Portland, Dorset. The company operates two sites — Jordans/Bowers Mine and Stonehills Mine — and pioneered a shift from open quarrying to underground mining to preserve the landscape. Their Portland Stone range encompasses multiple named beds: Basebed varieties (Bowers Basebed, Jordans Basebed), Whitbed varieties (Stonehills Whitbed, Jordans Whitbed, Fancy Beach Whitbed, Grove Whitbed®, Ostrea Patch Reef Whitbed), and Bowers Roach®. Each bed differs in shell content, texture, and how it reflects light. Products include dressed architectural stone, Heritage Portland Stone® Bricks, and stone for both façade and interior applications as well as landscape design. Projects span heritage restoration (St Paul's Cathedral), major commercial developments (204 Great Portland Street, the British Library), and high-end residential work across the UK. Albion Stone holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications and is the only company worldwide to achieve a BES 6001 'Excellent' rating for responsible sourcing.
